Never been a lover of gangster films so naturally, I struggled to connect. Still, it’s packed with that Kitano x Hisaishi charm: feathery tone and minimalistic cinematography fill the space through the middle portions making it a quiet and contemplative hangout film which while i enjoyed, begun to drag after a while.
There’s clearly more beneath the surface - an existential thread that is further reinforced by the finale but I couldn’t quite grasp onto it. Maybe one to circle back to in the future…
