Three days in the life of a young mother, her mother, and her son, Luther, living in the postcolonial, matriarchal culture of rural Jamaica. As the narrative unfolds, a simmering conflict over Luther and his femininity surfaces and we are offered insight into two mothers with conflicting notions about love and protection.

Genuinely hate seeing the struggling mothers with their sons trope, but this movie is beautiful

"He still loves you."
One thing missing from this film is that Mother(2020) focuses too much on the marriage aftermath life. It doesn't explain why or how Misumi views life and marriage—specifically, how the boy came to be born or why she hates his father so much. This film is one step closer to being a masterpiece and is probably one of the films with the most potential ever. It's just not complex enough for me; 7/10 feels right.
