This is a review of the theatrical cut, not the extended cut though I do plan on at some point watching the extended cut.

This is a film that yes is a historical epic and has many sweeping battle sequences with incredible size and scale, the core of the film is a dissection of Napoleon Bonaparte.

Joaquin Phoenix gives an amazing performance as Napoleon that manages to express and convey so much. It really feels like we see all aspects of this character throughout the film and it’s terrific to watch.

Vanessa Kirby also gives an amazing performance within the film, as Josephine. Her presence looms over the entire film as she lingers over Napoleon, in his mind, at every moment.

In the last moment of the film, her name lingers while the rest of the text fades out. This is to further convey how Josephine lingers over the film. Through everything Napoleon does, Josephine looms over in his mind.

The film is also masterfully directed, such grand size and scale within every aspect of the film. The cinematography is absolutely incredible omg

we need to keep letting ridley scott make historical dramas cause every time the production design and cinematography is flawless and so pretty to look at. 

this film lacked a good soundtrack though and that was weird . like you'd be watching a battle scene and all you could hear was the soundscape and then halfway through a faint classical melody comes on

The battle scenes were entertaining, but definitely not the best representation of Bonaparte’s life. There were some strange dialogues.
