I don’t know what possessed Amazon to give us this movie, but I can say with confidence that Ice Cube as Security Officer William might be one of the funniest unintentional performances I’ve ever seen. Every single time he opened his mouth, I was gone. There’s one scene where he’s explaining to the president what the aliens are up to, and I swear it sounded like he was holding the script in his hand, finger-tracking each word like it was a bedtime story. The way he said “the intelligence command center analysis” made me laugh so hard I had to pause.
William’s emotional focus was pure comedy gold — he freaks out way more over losing his house and Facebook page than his pregnant daughter bleeding out or his son who’s literally about to be obliterated. Speaking of his son, the scene where William finds out his kid is the “disrupter guy” about to blow the Goliath plan wide open? Priceless. His mix of shock, confusion, and “Wait, what?!” was hilarious.
And then there’s the thumb drive scene. William is being dragged by aliens, everything’s chaos, and somehow he still manages the most overly dramatic, slow-motion, heroic thumb drive insertion I have ever seen in cinema. I didn’t even know putting in a USB could look like an action climax, but here we are. Honestly, I should’ve just given this movie 4 or 5 stars — I pretty much cried laughing through every single scene. Comedy gold, whether they meant it or not!
😭😭😭😭😭😭
