“Of all of us there…Bartman had the most honor among all the people there. He made a mistake, he admitted his mistake. He asked forgiveness of the Cubs and of the fans.
There’s a lot of regret in Chicago about how his name was changed into a verb.”
This movie still makes me feel the same way it did when it came out. Baseball is just the best, but the magnifying glass this film holds up to scapegoats and toxic fandom makes any compassionate baseball fan feel like scum. That’s powerful storytelling!
Bill Buckner, man. I can’t imagine how he lived with that for as long as he did before he was able to forgive. Many weaker men wouldn’t have survived that kind of treatment from the public. When he started crying, I started crying.
Shoutout to Bartman for still not cashing out to this day and valuing his privacy more.
