While there was stuff in here I liked, mostly aesthetically, for the most part i found this to be narratively incoherent and difficult to follow. From listening to Ethan Hawk’s epilogue to the movie it sounds like that’s a common experience. While I can appreciate a movie that focuses on aesthetics and emotion over narrative, my issue here is the implication of a narrative, it makes it frustrating when you’re trying to make sense of the plot and that’s distracting from embracing the aesthetic.

Zeros and Ones is mind blowing in the most human way possible

Did I completely follow everything that is going on? No, I didn’t

But I’m also never able to follow everything that is going around me in real life, at least politically, and this really speaks to that. When I see the news or read an article about the world, I see so much chaos, death, destruction and the higher up gaining more and more as the people suffer.

This movie takes that depressing feeling, that anxious stressful feeling and really puts it to screen. There’s so much going on. The camera is always on and moving.

Ethan Hawks with an incredible performance, but to be honest the introduction is a bit misleading. I get it, and I love Ethan Hawke, but saying that this movie is about “this past year” made me focus on a few things (the masks) rather than truly taking it in

Mostly because I was hung up on the intro, I couldn’t get fully there, but I have a feeling the next time I watch Zeros and Ones, it’ll be one of my favorites.

Edit: I have not stopped thinking about this movie since it ended, and I am “fully there”, whatever that meant ^ a modern masterpiece

Too aimless, it never took off really. Ethan feels so out of place too. It matches the empty COVID feel tho.
