“your mother ate my dog!”
“not all of it”
this movie is completely insane, and easily one of my favourite zombie films ever made, for obvious reason. it makes me wonder why the director decides to make one braindead film, but somehow there’s 3 lord of the rings movies?? this movie is easily one of the goriest zombie flicks ever, with its cartoonish over the top blood, which honestly could even compete with tokyo gore police as the most on screen violence, ever (that i’ve ever watched) another thing i love is while it is produced in the era where cgi was becoming more and more prevalent/popular, this completely sticks to practical effects which makes it just look so much better, also that final act is manic… i thought everyone was exaggerating how much blood was in it, but at the end basically ur entire screen is red: with a massively explosive and bloody finale with gross out practical effects galore. not only is this gore heavy, there’s so many other things which are not only incredibly memorable, but also really add to that extreme gross out, dark humour they were aiming for. stop motion rat monkeys that inflict a disgusting disease that make you decay from the inside out, the main characters mother literally eating her own ear after it drops into her custard, that same mothers skin peeling off and her son needing to glue it back on, illegal sales of tranquillisers, a dead body throwing up a neon green unknown liquid, a random priest who cos also somehow a kung fu champion?? zombies impregnating eachother, a rib cage just getting completely ripped out and that’s not even naming half of them - all being totally unhinged in the best was possible, all being used for a comedic effect, and this is probably one of the funniest horror comedies i’ve ever seen. the plot is over the top, the characters are bizarre and this films never takes itself seriously, with its oddball nature and maniacal pace, it’s use of slapstick comedy makes this film everything but dull through its entire runtime. one of the most absurd things i’ve ever seen, and i mean that in the most complimentary way possible. it had a certain style which i don’t think i’ve ever seen before, and this is not only dripping with blood, but also originality.
