This is it man. A true modern miracle. Fuck this is so great
Michael Bay discovering drones is like Brook Lopez adding a three point shot. Just when you think Bay doesn’t have it he comes back and proves that he is an all time director, like it or not. The action is fantastic and this is maybe the most tense Michael Bay film - the shaky cam combined with the sprawling drone shots leads to some truly masterful and captivating sequences. Bay has truly made some slop in his career but he is objectively one of the greatest action filmmakers to live, and here he proves that he can make his movies emotionally compelling.
The performances really hold the middling script together. Yahya Abdul-Mateen is fantastic here, as is Eisa Gonzalez. Their performances are central to the films emotional core and they carry it so well. By the end, you really do feel the emotions the characters themselves are feeling, which is rare to see in a Bay film.
Also, no one plays a dickhead like Jake Gyllenhaal does. He’s in the same tier as Matt Damon in The Departed here.
Got some all time Michael Bay dialogue here as well
