Jean-Louis and Anne have had their fling and separated. Now 20 years have passed. He is still dating various women. She is now a big-time director whose most recent film was a very expensive bomb. She comes up with the idea of making a romance based upon her fling with Jean-Louis. She contacts him to gain his permission. Jean-Louis is still in racing and goes away for a desert rally while she begins filming. She finds the mood of their romance difficult to recapture in her film.

my first reaction when I saw this movie title: "yippieee they must be together and more romantic now, especially after 20 years!"> my last reaction after watch this movie: "uhm okay... (?) 🙂"
well, Lelouch revisits Anne (who played by Anouk Aimée) and Jean-Louis (who played by Jean-Louis Trintignant), exactly twenty years after their unforgettable first meeting, but this sequel feels more like a film within a film than a natural continuation. Most of the runtime reflects on memories, with plenty of re-used footage from 1966 intercut with their present lives. It’s less about telling a new story and more about documenting how two people (and the actors themselves) carry the weight of time, nostalgia, and what might have been
the “film-in-a-film” scene makes it fascinating at times but also drags the narrative, leaving the romance itself less developed 🥲 but still, moments like their reunion retain a bittersweet charm, reminding us why the original (1966 verse) was so magical. It’s a sequel that leans heavily on longing and memory rather than passion, yet touching in places but never quite reaching the emotional spark of the first movie
p.s this is far from my expectation. I always say in my heart like, "oh please don’t make my heart broken again" but the ending? I CANNOT EXPLAIN IT LIKE PLSSS ARE THEY TOGETHER OR NOT??? 😭💔
(alurnya jangan gantung lah pls, aku butuh klarifikasi. jangan bilang ending-nya mereka cuma HTS-an jirr? 😇)
