Army of Darkness is, for me, the most entertaining movie in the Evil Dead trilogy. Where the first two lean into horror, this one leans fully into comedy.
The theatrical cut is perfectly paced. It never stalls, never wastes a scene, and keeps you glued to the screen from start to finish. The mill scene alone is pure entertainment.
Ash as a character its at his best here: cartoonish, ridiculous, and completely irresistible. Bruce Campbell makes it all work through his charisma and total conviction, he delivers his one liners with great conviction.
Raimi's camerawork is always exciting to watch.
The greatest selling point for me though is the setting. Undead skeletons in a medieval castle, wizards, the skeletons in particular feel alive and very silly. It's a combination I didn't know I needed, and i NEED more.
