twenty-second log of japanuary
can't believe this is my third ishii film, and each one is completely different?? in contrast to what i watched yesterday, this one feels almost noir—hazy, eerie, with sound design that pulls you straight into its world. that dark, empty forest while waiting for the train feels like a shared space between the film and the viewer. the bnw style genuinely made me feel like i was watching something from the 70s or 80s, not the 90s.
danger turns luminous when life dulls into routine. when nothing stirs you anymore, the quiet thrill of sitting beside an alleged serial killer on a bus can feel intoxicating, a stolen moment of aliveness, a private rebellion against the ordinary.
