Director-Eric Rohmer. This is the third Rohmer that I have seen. Till now I had enjoyed none of them. The film is a collection of three short films with similar themes of love and dates. Its structure isn't much but the dialogues are written well. There isn't much emphasis on dialogues though as they don't carry much conflict. All the stories have no notions of destined love or a fated meeting but a chance encounter that may very well lead to nowhere. The film is comedic but not all jokes are as good as others, didn't laugh out loud much. The three stories manage to keep themselves distinct due to a tonal shift that doesn't feel forced at all.The first film is the most humorous for me but has the bleakest material too. It covers themes such as wrongful accusation of theft, choosing the wrong person to pursue, trying to go far away from one's boyfriend, etc. but manages to make it all comedic thereby losing a chance to go for something deeper albeit less enjoyable. It could have been a better final short film as it sets to tone for the other films to be comedic as well. The second film isn't as engaging nor as comedic as the first one and manages to cover themes of disillusionment, trying to fill a void caused by present circumstances, etc. It's character study I liked more than the first one.The third one I disliked quite a lot as the painter came off as a creep with his a-hole behavior to a degree that it overpowered any nuances Rohmer might have set. The side characters are the most forgettable in this one.Rohmer manages to make a film that could be considered a study about how a city can shape individuals who reside in it. But the film suffers from not having enough time. The viewers won't be able to spend much time with the characters as well as the character development will be subpar due to time constraints.Over all the film is like a bundle of superficial joy that one might consider their comfort watch after a tiring day.
