8/10 Why was this such great writing. The film took a little bit for me to hit but I did really enjoy this. I am on my Laika studios marathon right now and still a movie hasn’t missed. I’ve only seen 2 films from them before this marathon which were the Corpse Bride and The Box Trolls. (Both I have a very faint memory of other than watching them) Out of the 3 I’ve watched recently this goes in my third place spot. 1. Kubo and The Two Strings 2. Missing Link 3. ParaNorman. The other ones just hit for me more but this was the funniest film I’ve seen from Laika yet. The depiction of kids turning into their teen years is actually the most accurate adaptation I’ve seen done in a kids movie. Neil freeze framing his moms yoga class at the right moment and Mitch being in awe of Courtney the whole film was literally us in out early teen years. The third act though when Norman finds out about the truth of the witch and they go to woods was amazing. I honestly was blown away by how emotional it got she just wanted to be with her mom again it was honestly just so sad. The reason this has come last on my list as of so far is because its the only one that sort of bored me at parts and I get this one is older but the visuals weren’t up to par with the other 2. I still absolutely love this and will definitely be watching it this October. I can definitely understand how this would be someones favorite Laika film.

i love love love this movie!! it’s so fun and so heartwarming. Norman and Neil are so cute and i love their friendship sm. I remember when I watched this for the first time, the scene where the bully Alvin is dancing to the fix up, look sharp song it had me laughing so hard i have no idea why but it was so funny ( i was probs over tired lmao ). this film is just so funny and so perfect for halloween 🎃

I first watched ParaNorman at a friend's 11th birthday party, and it blew my mind. It's always been shocking that it didn't receive the same amount of recognition that Coraline got despite being just as good. From the excellent voice-acting (especially the child actors - they sound so natural and, to be honest, did better than Dakota Fanning as Coraline) to the great plot this film is executed so well. For being a kids' movie, there are some good jumpscares and actually terrifying sound effects similar to Coraline. The script is well-written with hilarious quips that are iconic (e.g. Mitch's boyfriend). Laika is truly a one-of-a-kind studio because every project they do is brilliant, and ParaNorman is a shining example of a quality film.
