i’m surprised with how much i enjoyed this despite this having a very secluded low budget local atmosphere. i really liked the two different tonal shifts this explores. the two tones don’t mix like oil and water, the first half is forgiving filled with romantic christmas energy and the second half is cheap gore with unbeknownst conflict. but it’s not necessarily a bad thing.
the dialogue writing is pretty decent for something that’s clearly cheap, really good cheesy lines here and there. obviously there are some awkward line deliveries and the camera doesn’t really know what to do but sit there. the environment doesn’t feel too homey as i wish it could, that’s usually the issue with these cheaper films is that the setting usually feels dull.
despite loving the chemistry between olivia and luke, this film plays with their conflict too safe. there wasn’t anything alarming or crazy that would get the audience to be on the edge of their seat. it could’ve given more of the horror aspect for sure and tried to be more terrifying since the most of the film had a lot of comedic backdrops.
