It's sad that Fahrije had to go through that much suffering in real life. The movie was fine; it's just that it was a straight up documentary. Nothing felt extraordinary or cinematic. The movie was solid, but it didn't leave a lasting impression. I struggle to even write a detailed review.

An intimate and dramatic story about a woman trying to support her family while her husband is missing and presumed dead in an extremely misogynistic environment. While the story is not groundbreaking it is delivered admirably and beautifully and allows us to glance at this tragic moment of Kosovar history and examine the role of women in this society.

While this was on my watch list, I do admittedly add films to my watch list without knowing what they are about. I watched Hive in a room in my University's library lead by a full right scholar from Kosovo, the setting of this film. She is a journalist from the area and she's in Iowa for school. She also has connections to some of the events discussed in this movie. It certainly elevated the experience and contributed to a very good movie that I would gladly rewatch.Hive is a film that often made me angry. Not at the craft but of a large majority of the supporting characters who I wanted to punch in the face. They are misogynistic and go against typical standards in modern day America but this is Kosovo. The lead character certainly could have e handled for composure for the most part. The lead is based on a true person who lead multiple widows to create ajvar, a staple of the country. This character is so well written that it was so fascinating to view her storyline. This movie goes hard in so many places but I do wish it could have done more to elevate the experience. Besides that, the film uses its tone effectively, the score was utilized well, and it serves as a fantastic feminist feature.
