This movie has an amazing pace and great screenwriting, it certainly has stood the test of time. The constant surveillance the escapee are given and the friendly manners they are treated with creates a contrast so strong it leaves the spectator on an edge for the whole movie. I personally recognized in this movie so many traits and idea I can connect it from Le Trou all the way to Inglorious Bastards. It's a lesson of cinema that shows us how the greats always take inspiration from someone else, even involuntarily. There is also a great message in this movie on how the Noble class was viewed at the time, almost as a superior species. In a world that was still almost entirely run by the royalty, this movie is a message among the thousands of how that world was coming to an end. Now, 90 years apart, we have made many steps ahead, almost destroying that sense of hierarchy, but we are far from done.
