I love how the story begins in color by depicting various vibrant aerial shots of the modern-day landscape of Belfast. It reminds me of a tourism video and makes me want to visit! 

But then early within the film, the scenes transition to black and white. In terms of cinematography and lighting, I think the film’s black and white aesthetic fits perfectly with the film’s historical themes.

The black and white scenes filled with violence and conflict are a direct contrast to its serene present-day landscape, while also adding to the realism of the film by allowing the audience to understand that these were the realities and real lives of those living in Northern Ireland. What an insightful St. Patrick’s Day watch.
