A smartly written romance that is not only ahead of its time, but a bit ahead of now. This follows a free spirited woman living on the beach in Big Sur homeschooling her kid. The kid gets court ordered to Christian boarding school, then the head of the school falls in love with the mom. It dealt with things like abortion, single parenting, questioning religion, questioning any authority and laws, and grander philosophies about life. Taylor and Burton are amazing actors and it’s super fun to see this as well because I’m listening to the TCM Plot Thickens pod and it’s about them having an affair during Cleopatra just a few years prior. So the cheating and sneaking around scenes played very real and relentless. I didn’t expect to like this so much, but romance movies use to hit back in the day.
