The first thing I want to mention is the amazing chemistry between all these actors, but specifically Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis. Their chemistry is unmatched here, and it’s always a joy to see them on screen together.
I love how Ferrell, a guy arguably known more for playing the dumb, naive man, flips that on its head and plays a genuinely idiotic, comedically evil, and terrible person.
The way he conveys his lack of meaningful principles, whether it’s through having affairs or gladly profiting from companies, is genuinely hilarious. You can’t help but laugh at how ridiculous and awful Cam Brady is.
Galifianakis is also brilliant in this film. The way he portrays a genuine, hard-working man who initially just wants to do good but gets dragged into the depths of a political war is a brilliant transformation to watch.
I have to mention how glad I am that his good-hearted nature always shines through, even when he briefly loses himself. He genuinely cares about his wife and kids, but outside forces like Tim Wattley, his campaign manager, constantly push him toward making the wrong decisions.
It’s also hilarious seeing him try to act tough while still having that high-pitched, soft southern accent throughout the movie. I burst out laughing multiple times because of it.
Briefly touching on the side characters, I thought they were all brilliant and engaging. Sudeikis and McDermott were the standout supporting performers for me. Their characterisation and performances were just so fun to watch.
Lastly, I have to say this is simply a really funny movie. I was laughing throughout and had a brilliant time watching it.
Overall, The Campaign is a great turn-your-brain-off type of movie where you can sit back and have fun.
Which is why I’m giving this film a 4/5 stars. It falls slightly short because of a somewhat rushed ending, but overall it’s still a brilliant and worthwhile movie to watch.
