There are two ways to watch this movie:
1) Approach it as the final film John Cassavetes’ name was slapped on. Acknowledge that he didn’t really direct it and jumped in as a favour to his friend Peter Falk. Try to find the Cassavetes-isms in every scene and end up disappointed. Put it on a “Cassavetes Ranked [COMPLETED 🏆]” list and rate it half a star because it isn’t a Cassavetes film.
2) Approach it as a cheesy and wild 80s comedy. Acknowledge that it isn’t a Cassavetes film. Move on.
Writing in-depth about this film feels wrong. It would be a disservice to the man, John Cassavetes. I just have to move on and accept Love Streams as his final true work.
