A pretty straightforward school drama about a kendo club, class elections and a psychic girl trying to stop an alien invasion. Totally normal. Some dips in the pacing, but Obayashi’s visual flair and editing keeps it movin’. And the final showdown is up there with House.

as always w/ every obayashi my eyes are sparkling.. whimsical and slightly off-putting but always with that undercurrent of the melancholy of youth and living earnestly and caring for others. Also this was basically a mob psycho plotline....

so much fun, maybe my fave Obayashi film yet! great premise, characters & really cool cinematography! loved just how surreal and crazy this film becomes, especially during that final act. not quite as crazy as Hausu, but still has such a cool style. the school slowly becoming a sort of dictatorship was quite funny to see also and overall this film was just really fun & i cant believe it took me this long to finally watch it! highly recommended.

Fun and Creative, but the narrative and characters are a mess, yet How Can you not love Obayashi?
