Kokubu, captain of his university's kendo team, is a mystery to those who know him: An ascetic dedicated to a point of obsession with the simplicity and beauty of the sword arts. Kagawa, a promising but arrogant kendo student, is attracted to Kokubu's devout leadership but kept at a distance by his standoffish nature. With the national championships fast approaching, the pair clash as Kokubu drives his students with increasingly rigorous training and Kagawa tests Kokubu's grip on the class.

I loved thisss!!! I really want to give this 4.5 stars!!!

Just seeing the evolution of the characters through the film and the great yet terrible and dreadful ending makes this film just so biter sweet and beautiful.

Fantastic Cinematography once again!
Can’t wait to watch the last film in Misumi’s Samurai trilogy!!

A shot in here that’s absolutely up there in my favs of all time
So that’s awesome to have in mind
Honestly not convinced by a lot of this, felt like it didn’t stay true to a fair deal of its characters, or took slightly too long around the middle to really sieve through to its core themes and stuff
Then making this feel more convoluted and unfocused than it actually was looking back
Weird feeling go think back over it and realise it probably didn’t dilly dally as much as I feel like it did
But I think this feels too plumped up in certain areas and then not fleshed out enough in others
Mainly just that core element of jealousy and rivalry and admiration all bundled up into something imperceptibly menacing
Or at least that’s what you’d hope for but it seemed to take a route a bit too safe for that to really feel heavy or profound at all in this context and with these people
Great performances all round for the most part
Ichikawa can do no wrong it seems
And a few others I just wna see in more stuff
Type of vibe where they’re other films shoot up in watchlist priority right about now
A great idea and a job well done with some awesomely composed shots sprinkled along the way !
Perhaps that’s all the summary I need
