“Some mind trick has been played on a lot of us” - actual quote from a WeWork employee, reeling from the realization that their cravenly ambitious boss (an obvious charlatan) actually didn’t care about anyone but himself, and that no, they weren’t actually a “family”.
This was 90% “making” and about 10% “breaking”. I guess that’s what happens when a business collapses overnight, but it doesn’t make for the most engaging doc. I’m here for the painful, slow-motion collapse - the panicked presentations, the juicy denial, the walls-closing-in feeling. If you’re going to run a scam, you’ve got to be considerate of the eventual doc, I mean c’mon.
