first of all I need to say that I’m so happy I bought a premium subscription on Cavea plus, so now I can watch any Georgian film, sometimes even with English subtitles, so for all my Georgian friends here on letterboxd that couldn’t find this film anywhere like me, it’s on cavea.
second of all. The first 40 minutes were just magical, I was just the happiest person on earth as I thought I found a pure, kind, beautiful story about love, football and Georgia. The moment when we get a signal to close our eyes and open them after another signal made me tear up a little as it woke some old glimpse of magic in me, that was there my whole childhood, but then somehow disappeared. I didn’t even want to open my eyes and see what’s actually happening there, as I didn’t want to ruin this perfect, unique little trick they created for the viewers.
But then… I love when in films, especially in Georgian films, they show the beauty of the place they film in, small details and people, but not when it’s 1 minute long and nothing happens. And I guess 1,5 hour of this 2,5 hour film just consists of USELESS and MEANINGLESS shots of nature. Some cinematic ideas and elements sent shivers, but some disappointed me.
It feels like the film lost the main idea and story it wanted to tell us while telling it. It could’ve been so much more, but unfortunately from immediate 5 stars it fell to 3 ☹️☹️☹️
