"eat me, sebastian! It's okay for guys like you and court to fuck everyone. But when I do it, I get dumped for innocent little twits like cecile. god forbid, I exude confidence and enjoy sex. do you think I relish the fact that I have to act like mary sunshine 24/7 so I can be considered a lady? I'm the marcia fucking brady of the upper east side, and sometimes I want to kill myself. so there's your psychoanalysis, dr. freud. now tell me, are you in... or are you out?"
this movie tells me exactly why the 1990s is my favourite decade of film. the fashion, the music, the popular actors, the trashy erotic thrillers. unlike other teen-flicks of the era, it isn’t super bubblegum or feel-good, instead with super sexually-daring scenes, cynically cold, edgy exploration of power, privilege, manipulation, psychological warfare. characters are truly amoral, and i think that makes everything more entertaining: using more realism and almost feeling like a reality tv programme. the dialogue is sassy, and witty: and amusing as hell. the cast is incredible. the scream queen sarah michelle-gellar, who delievers a deliciously wicked performance as kathryn, in the pre-buffy the vampire slayer era. reece witherspoon as the innocent girl was also amazing, while she probably suits the more unhinged style, she is really likeable and perfectly casted. the visuals are super stylised, inspired by pop-culture, amazingly glamorous, totally aesthetically pleasing. the music is nostalgic, and i would be open to rewatch this in the future honestly lol
