mostly a good movie. wish they played the official Neeye Oli in his training montage instead of the SaNa solo version; movie one is much less hype.
my main issue with this is that the first half and the second half are essentially 2 different movies, so much to the point that Pasupathy is basically the protagonist of the first part (who is brilliant as always), and Arya is only the protagonist of the second.
Arya's downfall was just not that convincing at all, it's basically a 5 minute montage. so to then make the entire rest of the second half about his recovery and comeback is also not very convincing because i never truly connected with his downfall. sure, they show a lot of bad things that he gets into and the terrible person he becomes, but it's all just dumped at you. it's especially bad because the entire first half spends it's time gradually building him up as Pasupathy's next, and best, protégé, and it's directed really well. to then follow it all up with a montage of him ruining all that is stupid.
they probably should've cut some of the first half, and spent more time in actually developing his downfall after that. movie probably didn't really need to be 3 hours, however i will say that the pacing really wasn't an issue anywhere in the film. never felt a lull.
villains were fine. rose was a pretty good character. daddy character was pretty awful but whatever. thought the climax wasn't as hype as i was expecting.
overall it's a good movie. my expectations were maybe too high after hearing such high praise so it may seem like I'm shitting on it, but i did really enjoy it. the movie has some great characters, phenomenal world building, cinematography, sound design, camera work, and i love the colour grading. maybe if i went in blind I'd be glazing this tbh.
