my diss supervisor told me to watch this as he believes it will be good for my work, so i feel like i watched this through a lens different to how most people viewed it. in itself, it is a queer film, but i paid attention more to the aspect of the "other" from a "foreign" perspective and the differing treatment of jose, which was clearly a generational theme, with ander and arantxa treating him with respect, whereas the mother clearly viewed him as an outsider, almost invasive into not only their home but personal lives.
until his presence allows ander to realise that he, too, is an outsider, not as a foreigner, but within his sexuality. i won't go into it too much, however it is interesting to watch ander reconcile with his sexuality whilst in the masculine world that is rural spain.
an interesting watch :)
