lol this quote makes me laugh and confused in the same time 😭
— okaayy tbh if it weren’t for
Daniel Day-Lewis being in this movie, well i probably wouldn’t have chosen to watch it again
at first, i tried to watch this from beginning to end. pls it’s quite hard to grasp what message or meaning it’s trying to convey. people might even end up saying something like, “
oh guys, it’s just DDL playing a traveling dentist in a remote part of Patagonia, Argentina.” and then byeee~ they gave it ½ - 2 stars probably
but after watching it for a second time, i slowly began to understand what this movie was trying to say. it’s a bit hard to put into words, but to me, the character played by DDL,
dr. Fergus O’Connell, isn’t just a dentist serving a remote area with limited healthcare access. he also feels like someone who’s constantly running away— like someone deeply
rootless. that becomes clear through the way he keeps moving from one place to another, living an independent life without really tying himself to anyone, and driven by his own ambition
i’d say
Fergus’s life also feels pretty flat. but at the same time, we can see his vulnerability in how he keeps failing at relationships, how he struggles to heal his own ”emotional wounds”
(almost like a metaphor for his profession, fixing other people’s teeth while being unable to fix himself)in the end, i think this movie is meant to make us sit with the emptiness and loneliness of its main character. that’s it 😅🫴🏻

maybe this is not the one of Daniel Day Lewis’ best movie, but i love seeing his smile here 🧚🏻♀️🤍
