It's World War II and there is a severe housing shortage everywhere - especially in Washington, D.C. where Connie Milligan rents an apartment. Believing it to be her patriotic duty, Connie offers to sublet half of her apartment, fully expecting a suitable female tenent. What she gets instead is mischievous, middle-aged Benjamin Dingle. Dingle talks her into subletting to him and then promptly sublets half of his half to young, irreverent Joe Carter - creating a situation tailor-made for comedy and romance.

I love Jean Arthur, and I love Connie, and I love how Connie reacts just like I would the first time she sees Joe
Dingle was a little bit of a troublemaker, yes, but what a clever Cupid!!! In the first minute, he already knew how well they matched

Omg this film is so damn hot like the porch scene omggg I'm here for it. And not to mention the other walking up the stairs scene is so amazing. Joel McCrea and Jean Arthur have a ton of chemistry. Also the commentary on the housing crisis in Washington is amazing (it's true it's still here to this today and around the world 😢). But honestly Joel and Jean have amazing electrifying and sexy chemistry!!! Ugh but this film was genuinely so delightful like I love love. And I love those magical old Hollywood films so much!
