Sometimes you go to the theater and the movie you watch truly leaves you with your jaw dropped to the floor. Se7en does exactly that.
I of course knew that this was going to be a classic since it is so highly regarded, but I was glad to not have any spoilers or even know what it was about going into it. I only realized about half way through that this was the movie where Brad Pitt asks what is in the box. Unfortunately for Mr. Pitt, I had a strong feeling of what was going to be in said box and I ended up being correct.
Younger Brad Pitt and peak Morgan Freeman are outstanding together. Previously I had only seen Pitt in most of his recent roles where he plays a much more adult like figure (i.e. Moneyball, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, etc.), but as I watch his roles in older movies like Ocean’s, Fight Club, and now Se7en, I see just how great he was early in his career. He’s charming, spastic, charismatic, and makes you really connect with the emotions of his characters. Freeman is his own realm. He’s stoic, equally charming, and brings you along with his curiosity so damn well.
This is definitely a movie that is going high up on my list of “glad I got around to watching”, and I am equally as glad it was on that beautiful big silver IMAX screen.
Also, my goal for 2025 is seeing 50 movies in theaters. This is #1/50. Very excited for you all to be a part of the journey.
