We love to see to see an early talkie that’s competently constructed and paced. Pre-codes can be so fun, but the earliest ones tend to feel stiff and tedious due to all the growing pains that came with the transition to sound. This one is so much more loose and fun!

The ending is terrible, but it was always going to be. We can’t be out here letting women be too empowered and independent in nineteen hundred and thirty.
