Peter Von Kunt
The despicable main character brought to life by a mesmerizing Denis Menochet proves to be Ozon’s greatest asset in this fascinating but problematic adaptation of Fassbinder’s masterful theatre work. The ideas are all jumbled and “in your face” while the mise en scene has a stronger stylistic imprinting than his last films. It is truly something to be witnessed just for the boldness and the melodramatic quality, but I understand anyone who may find this adaptation disappointing.
