Now I'm not Leo's biggest fan but HOLY shit young him was something else . I've watched few movies of young Dicaprio I can't say this is the best that he had acted on because his acting keeps getting better and better by any movie I watch of him , however this was one of the most relatable movies I've watched of him .
Now about the movie there's something Jack said at the beggining of it
" Sometimes I had to blame somebody and she was the only one there" OMFG how I felt that I too have a mom who id want to blame anything and everything on especially since she was the one who decided to leave my dad even though I know I wouldn't want them to be together or live together as a family but still I'd want to blame her for it because I didn't get to chose she did , even if Id have chosen the same thing which is why I see too much of myself in how Jack feels about his mom and how he's homesick and the only thing he wants to achieve is leaving that house and that hometown behind to built a life and have a job that he had always dreamt of , that part made me feel so seen I cried at the ending because of it .
However the scenes with the Dwight were uncomfortable as fuck everytime he pops up in my screen I want to break it , he's such an insecure man who gets jealous of Jack because he gets the opportunity to everything Dwight wanted for himself , the first scene we get of that disgusting vibe was the car scene where even I was scared for Jack's life , when the step father showed his real side and every scene after that is him beating the shit out of him under the ' I want to make you better' excuse but all I saw was Dwight taking all the anger and jealousy by teaching Jack how to 'man up' where we get to see a little bit of the boyhood and how hard it is because he's not teaching him to defend himself or be a man he's teaching him how to not be a girl.
Now the mother and how she didn't clock Dwight from the beggining although I think she did but she just wanted a better life for herself and her son , as she continued being with Dwight even when he fucking r*ped her in the first wedding night , yes that was rape to me her saying no and him continuing and pulling her hair to shut her up that's called raping GODDD they made sure to make me uncomfortable in any scene with that man, they made me hate the fucking actor.
Anyway , Jack and his mother's relationship was full of ups and downs as in the beggining of the movie Jack sees the independent side of his mom and how she is capable of doing anything on her own until she meets Dwight which then will be the switch off , where he gets to see his mom being completely silent and accepting every shade of disrespect from this man so she could have a 'good life' for her and her son and there's a line that she says after Jack points out how they're being treated the scene with the saxophone she says ' see, honey ? You gotta try and find the good stuff ' which tells us that she was never satisfied all she did was try to find comfort so she could get living as she's tired of moving around and being a single mother .
The end of the movie made me so emotional I loved it so much , finally quiting the hometown and the step dad it was the perfect ending although I gotta admit I thought the end would be Jack killing Dwight and rescuing his mom and himself from him for some reason anyway LEO'S PERFORMANCE WAS INCREDIBLE WHICH MAKES ME WANT TO EXPLORE MORE OF HIS MOVIES
