not an amazing documentary technically speaking, but still 100 percent worth the watch.
was on tiktok and a guy referenced this documentary and i got curious and had to watch it. one gripe i have is that i actually wish it went a bit deeper into the history. i understand it’s supposed to be kind of a launching off point where it’s some basics, that are still quite surprising, but that would just be my personal preference.
as a christian myself, it’s always disheartening learning little bits of history and how much corruption/collusion there was sprinkled over the course of history, and how much is really impacted because of a couple “small” decisions. with the wanting more history, i also wish there was some more about the intention behind the translating. was there a specific agenda or was it just carelessness/convenience with combining different words and whatnot?
in either case, this is definitely a must see story.
edit: upon doing some further reading, i realized something: couldn’t the translations be challenged even today? couldn’t different scholars and such come out and say this is the case? why is it not really talked about? i’m not really in the theology scene so ill have to do some further digging. but either way, that does seem odd to me how no one else is or has talked about it given the implications. or if this is all legit, what is the motive for the complacency? all things to consider. so as it stands, there is some interesting stuff here that i think makes it still worth a watch, however i don’t know that i can say it’s not at least a little bit “propaganda-ish” after thinking about it more.
