People hate this movie more than it deserves and yes I’m biased. This does have a nostalgia factor for me, I remember seeing the massive giant cutout poster in our mall theater so I watched it and loved it, I the bought a dvd sometime later probably in the Walmart $4 movie box. Yeah, I know it’s not a perfect movie, there’s a ton of things I could nitpick like how did the weather change up so fast multiple times, why were there so many skeletons in the sky place, having random goofy scenes, pampering to the 3D market, having a shallow and boring main protagonist and damsel, having pretty dated CGI, iffy pacing, but I say ignore all that for the good in this movie. The costume designs were out of this world good, like soldiers black armor was fire, the music was phenomenal. I thought it was a great adaptation of a familiar family story. They did reinvent it in a super interesting way and I really enjoyed that. The giants character designs were dope and the voice actors put out for these roles. I don’t know how they do it but they got Ewan McGregor, Bill Nighy (Davy jones), Warwick Davis, Ian McShane, Ewen Bremmer, and Stanley fucking Tucci. That’s an oddly star studded cast for a movie that I feel like most people could see flopping. Whoever pitched this movie to them needs a fucking raise. The ending with the crown was also cool because it connected the story with real life and also showed how the story morphed into a legend and how some aspects of the story got skewed into what we know as Jack and the beanstalk today. I also liked the beginning when the princess and jakcs stories were being told and how they were the same but different showing no matter where you come from, you can relate to the people around you.
