I watched Mulholland Drive when I was 15 years old.
I was a ̶p̶r̶e̶t̶e̶n̶t̶i̶o̶u̶s̶ precocious 15-year-old.

A glimpse into my unsupervised childhood. Like the narrator, I was also an only child in a single-parent household with free reign over my time (tbf my mom restricted my internet access, I just found ways to get it back.) The difference between my upbringing and the narrator’s is that, instead of the 2000s, my childhood took place in the 2010s. Still, half of my childhood memories are of wandering around digital spaces.
“Teen” chatrooms, 2 girls 1 cup, chain mails…

Why do I feel nostalgic over those as if they didn’t alter my brain chemistry :”)
Anyway, I knew the Mulholland Dr. jumpscare was familiar, I just couldn’t put my finger on it.

Going into this I was worried it was going to spoil Mulholland Drive.
It turned out to be way more about the dangers of early internet shock sites and the unfettered access to the internet that a lot of us had growing up.
Then it spoiled Mulholland Drive.
