i think this is genuinely an important watch because it touches on very little details throughout cinema that have caused us to become brainwashed.
the creator, however, tears down female directors for playing into this toxicity. yet, she takes any chance she can to include her own work, stating the case of “oh but when i do it it’s okay because….”
ALSO, this documentary is too long. i know it’s long because there are just so many things to be said and shown, but after a while it truly became sickening to watch because of my own personal experiences. at first it was very interesting and eye opening, and it definitely made me feel very seen. but the longer it went on, the worse i began to feel watching it. at some point in the film, it just felt like spreading awareness became forcing traumatic scenes down our throats.
maybe its just me. as someone whose a victim of sexual assault, it just started to make me feel so terrible and sick to my stomach.
all in all, i think this was a really important film to watch, especially if you are a filmmaker or just someone who loves film. but be aware.
