The Dawn Patrol
a film that blends camaraderie, rivalry, and the weight of war into a tight package. the flying scenes hold up surprisingly well, and the banter between the pilots gives it a lively edge. the first half drifts a bit, but the second half hits with sharper drama and stronger emotional beats, pulling it all together by the end.

The Dawn Patrol
bloated drama who’s main pleasures come from its flawed script and the consistency of its dour tone. directed competently but lacking the vision and grace that makes hawks’ later pictures so great. interested viewers will find something to appreciate about the rough-around-the edges quality to the images, achieving a realism that contrasts the heightened, tightly-controlled nature of other movies like only angels have wings and rio bravo.
