"Sorry for the inconvenience. Stockholm 22.10.1949. Dagmar Brink."
i can’t really put into words why i enjoyed this as much as i did, but i think the noir style alongside the general appeal of the cinematography and storytelling was generally rather appealing.
i do find it fascinating, for lack of a better word, the attempt at trying to pinpoint a reasoning, a person, a standout event that lead dagmar’s suicide rather than the collective experiences of someone who had lived a life suffering with mental illness. it isn’t explicitly revealed as to what she suffered from and speculating on someone mental state is not something i’d promote, but depression, anxiety and perhaps even bpd are all possible explanations to dagmars melancholic way of life and detached form of intimacy and high standards of those around her.
being a film made in the 50s it’s intriguing to see their approach towards mental health and suicide as looking at it rather a result of parts of their being, she was a women so of course the reasoning behind her suicide was issues with men and the lack of a boyfriend (i am obviously being sarcastic here).
i’d also like to say that i called alex being her female love interest very early on, you can’t conceal the sapphics from me
