A Trans with a Movie Camera

This is funky and nostalgic for some reason… I love it! Very dream-like and reminds me of just living life. This simply captures life, growing up, nature, beauty, and love in a subtle but effective way. The soundtrack and sound design is perfect, really puts everything together despite its missing cohesiveness and narrative structure, but it works so well and is very inspiring.

I'm a trans with some cameras, sadly I do not have a movie camera because I don't have enough money to buy one, but I have three cameras that can take good pics and one that can film videos

Stating the obvious but with the most joy and authenticity, in A Trans with a Movie Camera we see trans people living as people, their identity, self expression is a part of living as much as hanging out at the park or driving a car or eating or making fires, it is as normal as anything else; happiness, sadness, anger and peace. it is the most simple of statements yet to actually experience it as it is, where playfulness and experimentation results in casualness and reaffirmation of happiness and pain, that they are true and not dismissed. to have that medium objectivity I am allow to go “actually yeah am not as weird or out of place as I thought I am” and sometimes that’s a useful thing to remember especially when for someone like me am surrounded by cis people all the time so while am ashamed to admit it is easy for me to forget sometimes that there are many others like me out there in the world, atleast through film, through this app and more am able to reach them and you, and honestly that has been restoring my hopes, that some day I won’t feel so alone, that’s always been what cinema is about to me, to remind someone that even within the dark there is someone in the room with them sharing the story screened above. That In the context of wider discussions around trans representation what makes this so important is that like its name sake and what it references this is a piece of documentation, not just of the fact that Trans people exist but that the experience feels like this atleast to someone, at the very least to me it felt like this, half dream, half reality, all trans humanity, most of all i think it’s a work that looks forward, it’s welcoming and affirming, that the future can look brighter as long as we have each other, oh and there’s a trans vampire i mean, if that’s where we are heading count me in.
