Possibly the worst film I have ever watched. The animation is lifeless. Everything feels empty. It strips away everything lovable and enjoyable about a SpongeBob movie and replaces it with nothing of value.
The plot is awful — which might be forgivable if it were at least visually engaging — but instead it’s just more emptiness. The characters are hollow shells of what they used to be, even SpongeBob himself. It also introduces a bunch of unlikeable new characters and bafflingly bad plot moments that actively make the experience worse.
The only faint, half-smile chuckles come from the lab goggles and the paraglider dog. That’s it. Everything else is a complete disaster. This film made me want to rip my own eyes out.
A soulless, joyless cash-in that completely misunderstands what makes SpongeBob work.
