An expertly crafted homage to the horror films of old. Screamplay is as every bit charming as it is cheesy. Sure, the acting is sub par and the dialogue can be a little clunky, but it fits the aesthetic of the horror movies it idolizes. The visuals are consistently superb due to the beautiful high contrast black and white. The film's packed with jokes that almost never fall flat and the meta film elements are the icing on the cake. Speaking of which, the cyclical nature of the film adds, not only a layer of humor, but a significant row of teeth.

The walk of fame Edgar Allen, the protagonist, struts down features some classic talented actors and significant amount of litter. The agents and studios aren't concerned with the quality or the talent, just how it can benefit them personally. The actresses are nuts and the only director in the film is a careless hot-shot. Hollywood is only focused on cannibalizing itself to create the same "smart bloody horror flick with a twist at the end" as the studio head puts it. Screamplay displays this by making the end of the movie the beginning of the production of the beginning of the movie. An endless loop of the same "smart" movie. Screamplay, however, shouldn't need to have "smart" in quotes.
