How does one prevent a drop of water from drying up?
After three years of deep meditation, Tashi (Shawn Ku), is told to enter the worldly life of Ladakh where he is conflicted between living with his lover, Pema (Christy Chung Lai-Tai), and following the paths of Buddha.
The script is dense with philosophical questioning of religion and asceticism. "Which is better? To satisfy one thousand desires or to conquer just one?" is one of the questions posed by the film. How is Tashi supposed to live when the only thing he has known is the life of the Buddha as he has been living like a monk since he was five?
Christy Chung Lai-Tai shines in the movie, the feministic monologue at the end of the film makes you question everything you have been taught concerning religious figureheads. Tashi himself does a good job of portraying the inner conflict the character has been going through.
The soundtrack is nice with folk music playing in the backdrop. However, the film does drag in certain aspects. I feel that the story could have been told in a shorter period as well.
