This is such a solid all around movie. In the 1st act it feels like a normal 2000’s nostalgic holiday season. It’s hectic, fast paced, and some family commotion going on over a nice Christmas dinner.
The second part of this movie is pure isolation. It’s quiet other then the rustling of leaves or whatever small creatures are lurking on the island. The delusion of keeping a volleyball as a friend that actually initiates the conversation is pretty funny. Tom Hanks performance is great, he brings a lot of his charm here.
The Last part of this movie was beautiful. His relationship with Helen hunt’s character has fizzled away for understandable reasons. His reasons for keeping his life moving was poetic. “I just need to keep breathing. You never know what the tide will bring in.” I like to think he married that red head chick and moved to cali with his new Wilson ball.
