Love was changing the minds of pretenders
While chasing the clouds away
If Charles Chaplin raised his head and saw this film, he would surely feel identified with it and with his way of making films. And I don't say this only because it is a silent film, but because it transmits the same outpouring of feelings that Chaplin showed with his works.
Very far from the type of animation that Disney has accustomed us to for years now, here the simple and charismatic line of its characters stands out, reducing to the minimum what is necessary to infect you with the maximum.
It does not entertain itself with the visual paraphernalia of color and three-dimensionality and all those things but essentially dedicates all its effort to creating situations that work again and again on the relationship between both protagonists, thus delving into many of the feelings that accompany human beings such as love, friendship, loneliness, melancholy and resignation. It doesn't forget the humorous aspect (in fact there are several scenes in which we will smile) but basically it aims to show without any holds barred and with absolute sincerity the most noble and human side of this robot and this dog who will come across the different faces that the human being can show, both for good and for bad.
I really find this film exciting, as it shows the two points of view that one has during a breakup, whether it is a friendship or a romantic one and its consequences. We see a person who dreams, fantasizes and imagines little scenarios in which things might have turned out differently, ways of getting together or even thinking about how the other person is replacing him, this character also shows how theres going to be people who will take care of you and love you but also theres people who will take approach of you. On the other hand, the other perspective shows how the other person looks for ways to move forward, looking for new experiences and having relationships with completely different people. But something that they both have in common is that they miss each other deeply and wait for the reunion that shouldn't happen, since it's a relationship that ended, but it's a love/friendship that was so true and genuine, that one hopes it comes back, but no, slowly it has to be left behind
Almost at the end, we are shown how one of them ends up meeting someone who is absurdly different, while the other looked for an almost identical copy of the person he broke up with
But then, they see each other, and they smile at each other, because what they had lasted as long as it had to last, and it wasn't perfect, but it was genuine, they didn't cry because it ended but they danced because they had it, and they accepted that both are now with someone else, and that life goes on
What a masterpiece, it hurts deeply and is unbeatable
