Guilty pleasure
I’m not going to pretend that I just watched a really good movie, especially compared to the other „Lord of the rings“ ones but I still really enjoyed it.
I’ll get to the bad stuff first. Yes the movies Animation was mediocre, yes the movie feels rushed and dragged out at the same time, yes the great finale was underwhelming, yes the characters were all pretty flat and yes this was corny as hell sometimes. So basically most of the criticism is very very valid.
But still I am somewhat ashamed to say that I really enjoyed myself. The characters may be flat but I still found myself getting attached „Helm“, all of the three siblings, their cousin, „Wulfs“ war general and the Hobbit person. On the contrary I LOATHED that fucker „Wulf“ I was looking forward to his death the entire damn runtime, just for his demise to be so incredibly lackluster.
Apart from the characters, I found the story itself to be quite interesting, but not material for a two hour movie.
Also I’ve heard people call „Hera“ a „girlboss“ and a „Mary sue“ and whatnot, but I have to disagree on that one. Different from actual characters that I would consider those like, let’s say „Captain Marvel“ „Hera“ goes through actual hardships, developments and has actual imperfections that make her like a normal human. But I generally dislike the whole „girlboss“ debate so I’ll move away from that and give a special shout-out to the ending credits. The song was great and the hand drawn illustrations of the characters were very beautiful.
Also, one last thing. Next to me in the theatre we’re sitting two idiots, who constantly talked and laughed hysterically over the movie and were general nuisances. So if one of you is reading this (which I hope, but highly doubt): f you man, not cool.
Anyways, I can definitely see why people say that this has just been made so the license doesn’t run out, but I found a way to enjoy it even though I was still disappointed in the end.
