Like some others have noted in their reviews, I would also say that it is essentially a very solid remake, and I would also say that it receives too much criticism.

My main criticism: the special and, in my opinion, clearly homoerotic attraction from the original (I swear it's there, I'm not making it up) between the two is virtually completely gone in the remake. And that's a shame, of course, because this special relationship simply makes it more exciting. The remake is just smoother, but also more replaceable as a result.

This was actually really fun the progress of the story was smooth and fast paced in a good way. Jim’s death was brutal but props to Grace for still be able to shoot John after all that.
And hot take: I loved John, although the rage bait was crazy he was great.
