Such an austere (proto?)noir movie that doesn't mind letting itself linger in a moment or minute of silence to appreciate the shadows that houses the evil on the run.
The lighting and blocking compliment the beautiful shot composition in a way that leaves no doubt Renoir made it. Without a doubt ahead of its time.
