what am i even supposed to say about this film? i was so emotional while watching it until i finally burst into tears. i don't think i can express how i'm feeling right now in this review.
throughout the whole film you can almost feel some form of sinister presence in every scene. the dark, unsettling tone of the film is just so heavy. the score, the editing, it's all almost too much to take. and it is so painfully realistic which makes it that much harder to watch. even the moments of sisterhood and sparse moments of humor are laced with such deep penetrating sorrow.
on a formal level, i cannot overstate how impressive this film is. it can really go toe to toe with any other period film out there. the music can be anachronistic but still fantastic. i would love to gush about the cinematography and stuff but i'm in no shape to talk about the technical elements. what a devastating film.
