I’m willing to ignore the shock the audience into caring factor because it’s difficult to talk about shark finning without the shock factor. It’s a gruesome issue and it needs to be talked about more.
Unfortunately, I already knew all of the information in this documentary so it felt like it was dragging at times. If I didn’t take a bunch of environmental science classes, do outside research, and watch shark week every year for the past 15 years; I probably wouldn’t have felt the runtime as much. However the last 30 minutes were the most impactful since it dives more into the lesser known parts of shark killing. This is definitely a 4.5/5 but I’m tossing an extra half star because I love sharks and I think this was shot really well.
Still worth the watch and won’t be forgetting the pregnant shark scene for a while. Eli Roth did pretty fantastic job in my opinion.
Always go plant based if you can!
